After a third visit in August of 2004, they decided to buy property. Bald Head Island was also a good match for them because of its location. Their primary residence in Greensboro, N.C., is only a few hours' drive.

"We looked in Cape Fear Station because that was where we liked the beach the best," said Cathy. After looking at homesites, the couple decided to purchase an existing "Cottage Style" home that, as specified in architectural guidelines, is less than 2,000 square feet, but very big on charm. Although it was already completely furnished,it matched their personalities perfectly.

"The house was furnished down to the towels and sheets," said Cathy. "I walked in, looked around, and in ten minutes said, "Done.* All we had to do was show up."
