seems natural in the cozy, colorful cottage. Cathy explained, "We just wanted a beach house that wasn't complicated or ostentatious. I felt like the house was just made for me. It was bright and cheerful, fun and thankful. We have lots of visitors, and we let our friends use the house, as well."

Of all its lovely characteristics, what may be most notable is the armoire within an arms reach of the front door, where colorful beach towels and beach paraphernalia await their next outing.

Ever the proud host, Cathy waxed poetic about the island and her enthusiasm for Cape Fear Station: "It is a great place to go and you can't help but unwind here," she said. For the Kanes, a beach lover's wish has become a welcome reality. "I can't believe that it happened for us," said Cathy. "I just never imagined it would be a dream come true, but it all came together."
