Real Estate Showcase, Vol.23 No.12 - 5
Mr, Wallace has lived on South Harbor Island for about 15 years. He said one of the beautiful things about the Island is that even on a busy summer day there's no extra traffic in his neighborhood — "no beach traffic." Harold King is the second owner of his house on Island Drive. He's lived in the waterfront house since 1977. The homeowner said the plan came from a plan book and the house was built in 1941. Mr. Saulnier said it looked like a Craftsman (Modem Houses, 1905-1930), a style common downtown, in Carolina Heights, Audubon, Brookwood and the Mansion District. Its features include heavy detailing, smaller scale, open rafters and brackets. Mr. King is adding on to his home, which is now up on pilings. He's changing the original style somewhat, and adding a front porch, but said he, "didn't want it to look like a box when we finished," so he's added another roof gable. He's also leaning towards using vinyl shingles to avoid the "trouble and aggravation of wood cedar shake shingles. |
